Stories

Osagie, a young man from Berlin,

was able to participate for the first time in the annual seminar for young adults with a life-shortening illness by the support of the Toni Kroos Foundation.

From October 4th to 9th, a workshop was held with the motto "Berlin revisited", which, in addition to individual workshops with the theme "self-determined life", also aimed to bring young adults with a life-shortening illness together, in order to exchange and to recognize: You are not alone!

Organized by the "Deutsche Kinderhospizverein", which is committed to children, adolescents and young adults with life-threatening illnesses and their families, six young people met each other and quickly found out that the serious illness, often complicating everyday life with care services and helpers (all of which are still mostly in the parental household) are no reasons to forego fun in the capital. On these journeys, friendships often develop, young adults can report on their experiences, explore the city together and talk about life planning. Visits of exhibitions, as well as other trips, are part of the seminar as well as the exchange on further life planning.

For Osagie the participation was only possible through the support of the Toni Kroos Foundation. The gratitude leaves him speechless, so he can not clearly say what is most obvious to him – It was just the perfect mixture and every chat was valuable and important to him. But one thing is still important to him: to recognize a perspective far from the complicated everyday life described above, perhaps to start a study - he took with him from the conversations with his new friends. He is already looking forward to next year, maybe he can take part in the seminar, then in Cologne.
